INTER SCHOOL BOSCO OLYMPICS 2019

The 2nd Inter School Bosco Olympics for Don Bosco group of schools under the province of Shillong was held at Don Bosco School, Silchar from 12th – 14th December 2019. Mr. Dilip Kumar Paul, the honourableM.L.A, Silchar graced the inaugural ceremony as the Chief Guest and Rev. Fr. Joachim Walder, the Episcopal Vicar of Barak Valleyas the Guest of Honour. The inaugural ceremony began with the reception of the chief guest, dignitaries, solemn unfurling of Bosco Olympics flag followed by the March Past. The contingents of the 13 participating schools, the Scouts and Guides of Don Bosco School, Silchar and the School Band of Don Bosco School, Silchar participated in the March Past. The 13 participating schools included St. Anthony’s school, Shillong, St. Peter’s school, Nongstoin, St. Joseph’s school, Umden, St. John Bosco school, Sohra, Don Bosco School, Lawngtlai, Don Bosco school, Seling, Don Bosco School, Thenzawl, Don Bosco school, Nonglakhiat, Sacred Heart School, Shillong, H. Elias School, Shillong, Don Bosco School, Tamenglong, Khlieriat High School, Khlieriat and Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Silchar. The gathering witnessed the colourful drill display and classical dance by the Bosconians of Silchar, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the Olympics flame. After the official declaration of Bosco Olympics open by the Chief Guest, a variety of Sports events, both track and field events were organized. The three-day Inter School Olympics drew a massive crowd of enthusiastic students who took part in the various games in a true spirit of sportsmanship. The gatherings in the evening hours witnessed a variety of cultural exchange programmes. The closing ceremony took place on 14thDecember 2019 where Rev. Father Anthony Valluran, the founder Director and the Pioneer of Don Bosco higher Secondary School, Silchar graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his speech he stressed on the overall development of students and how Don Bosco Schools are working head and heart for the cause. He also appreciated the efforts put in by the staff and students of Don Bosco School, Silchar throughout this mega event. As the results were declared by the Chief Guest, it brought in brimming happiness to the students and staff of Don Bosco School, Silchar as they retain the Champion’s Trophy for the second consecutive year in both categories of the boys and girls.Don Bosco School, Silchar also bagged the Champions Trophy for kabaddi (Boys and Girls) and for Throw ball (Girls). The boys got the 2nd runners up title for Basket Ball and Volley ball. The first runner’s up trophy in the category both boys and girls was bagged by the St. Anthony’s School, Shillong, the second runner’s up trophy for boys went to Sacred Heart Boys’ School, Shillong and for girls, it was won by St. Joseph’s School, Umden. The third runner’s up trophy for the entire event for both boys and girls went to St. Peter’s School, Nongstoin.The event was in itself a learning and an entertaining experience for all. Don Bosco School, Silchar has once again proved that true education of a child is to bring out his/her innate capabilities and the looks forward to many more of such events.
