“Clean Silchar” Campaign Don Bosco School, Silchar

Honourable Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Damodardas Modi launched the country’s biggest “Clean India Campaign,” in Valmiki Basti in New Delhi on 2nd Oct. 2014. While launching the campaign Mr.Narendara Modi said “Gandhiji  gave us the message ‘Quit India, Clean India’ but his clean India dream is still unfulfilled”. He urged the whole nation to join hands with him and take the cleanliness pledge to make India clean in five years, i.e. by 2019 to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Gandhiji. As a response to the invitation of our Honourable Prime Minister towards “Clean India Campaign,” Don Bosco School launched “Clean Silchar” Campaign on 21st October 2014 at 09.00 a.m. Around 800 members comprising of the students of Classes VI – XII from DBS, the students of evening school, Bosco Tech and a few people from the neighbouring villages took part in the said campaign under the able guidance of the staff and management. During the kick off programme, Fr. Nelson Joseph, urged everyone to say ‘Yes’ to a clean Silchar and give Gandhi the gift of a clean Silchar for his 150th birth anniversary. He said, “Everyone should remain committed towards cleanliness and devote time for it. Cleanliness should not merely be the job of the domestic staff or the mashis. It is our job. It is our duty. It is our right to clean.Clean Silchar’ is a great campaign idea, but the real challenge will be to sustain it beyond the work done, the photos and videos that are taken today. All that we require is a sustained effort driven by patriotism to make silchar clean.” Br. Reggie, the administrator of the school exhorted everyone to be agents of change and work towards a clean Silchar city. He motivated everyone by placing forward the existing scenario of the city and raised concerns about it. Towards the end of the kick off programme, all made the cleanliness pledge saying “I Neither litter nor let others litter” and work towards a clean Silchar. After waving of the school flag, the participants went forth to launch the cleanliness drive in different groups to ISBT, National Highway Road from ISBT to DBS and DBS road. It was indeed a good and enriching experience for all the participants.WP_20141021_12_22_51_Pro DSC02823
